Making work is always a matter of improvisation, synchronicity, and the creative use of resources.

The novel was written in 1942/43 during while Genet was incarcerated for persistent vagrancy, petty theft and 'lewd acts', Genet wrote the novel in pencil on sheets of brown paper, provided by prison authorities for the purpose of making bags. According to Genet's friend and supporter Jean-Paul Sartre in his foreword to the book, a prison guard discovered the first manuscript that the prisoner Genet had made from his "unauthorized" use of the paper, confiscated the script and burned it. Undaunted, Genet rewrote the book from scratch. The second version survived and Genet took it with him when he was released.

The piece is a sharp critique of the state of mental health services in 2017. Underfunded and under siege from the government, the press and bureaucracy, mental health services are paralysed.

Like its predecessor, this book is a collage of fashion, Sunday supplement and lifestyle periodical imagery culled from magazines, augmented with hand-drawn, hand printed commentary and graphic images. The text expresses a dissatisfaction with the progress of Capitalism, the images becoming ever darker, more visceral and abstract.

**Please remember that every copy of this book is utterly unique - no two are the same. The narrative and structure are the same, but because of the process of construction and the inclusion of hand made imagery every copy is totally different from next. THANK YOU.
